In Dublin's Fair City

On Saturday, June 17th, the highlight of this school year began for us: Our language trip to Dublin, the capital of Ireland.

We had a very diverse program there, consisting of a full-day trip, several small excursions, the language school and also some leisure time. Furthermore, living with a host family was new to most of us, so that was an awesome experience, too.

The full-day trip led us to Glendalough, where we could explore early medieval ruins, a cemetery and the beautiful nature of the Wicklow Mountains. Despite all the beauty, this day was also extremely tiring, because some of us walked almost 30,000 steps that day.

Smaller activities throughout the week took us to the famous Trinity College, the Jeanie Johnston Museum, Croke Park Stadium and Teeling's Whiskey Distillery, where we were introduced to the history of Irish whiskey. We broke off the cliff walk on the Howth peninsula after a few minutes, because the fog unfortunately blocked our view of the sea. But all in all, we were very lucky with the weather all week, because contrary to the weather forecast, we rarely saw a rain cloud.

We spent the time in the language school in a very varied way, so in addition to grammar and vocabulary exercises, there were also many games and even a street survey included in the programme. In the last lesson we held a pub quiz to test our knowledge about Ireland, which was extremely entertaining.

On our final day, a small group of us visited Ireland's Eye, a small island near Howth that is particularly rich in flora and fauna. We were able to observe many rare bird species and even seals. Only the hiking trails could have been better.

In retrospect, we can look back on a week full of beautiful impressions that we will certainly not forget any time soon. Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to the main responsible teacher, Prof. Mag. Lorenz, and the accompanying teachers, Prof. OStR Mag. Désirée Winter, Prof. Mag. Barbara Kögl and Prof. Mag. Andrea Hackl-Lehner.
